Funding for Projects

We offer project based funding for groups, individuals and organisations who are working to unleash creativity in young people at scale. At this stage in our journey, we can provide up to $10,000 in grants for each project. Potential fundees must be based in Australia and Aotearoa.

2.

We set up a meeting

f we're interested in your organisation or project, we will get in touch with you to set up a meeting. In this meeting we'll see if you're a good fit and ask you more questions about your project, the impact you hope to make, and how we might work together.

3.

Investment Committee

If we are interested in funding your project, we will pitch it back to our Investment Committee who will make the final decision. If we aren't going to fund you, we will give you some of the key reasons why, and provide any feedback.

4.

Offer

If the Investment Committee gives us a 'yes', we will work on an offer letter for you. If you're happy with this letter, you sign it and we move forward with getting the funds to you so you can create magic.

We're reimagining grant making

We believe that traditional grantmaking and philanthropy is time and resource intensive on the organisations and people seeking these grants. We think organisations and people working on amazing projects should have more time to do the actual work instead of spending it on reporting, decoding complicated legal documents, or writing lengthy applications. So here are some ways we're doing things differently.

Drag Me!
01

We believe in trust-based philanthropy and we want you and your team to be able to focus on making a positive impact – not on creating complicated reports that will only be skimmed over once. Instead, we ask that after your project is complete, you touch base with us so we can organise a call and chat about how your project went, any learnings or feedback, and explore ways we can continue working together in future.

Minimal Reporting
02

From the application form to our offer letter, term sheet and agreement we keep everything as simple as possible so that we can execute and move things along quickly. We don't believe that a grant application should take you days or weeks to complete – our form takes less than 30 minutes to fill out. We also aim to get back to you within four weeks about the outcome of your application to eliminate anxiety and ambiguity.

Speed and Simplicity
03

We trust that the organisations and projects we fund know what they need and how they can best do that work. So once we decide to invest, we let you do that work and we don't get in your way. In saying that, we also know that you might need extra support to actualise your goals, scale your impact, or become financially sustainable, so we'll support you with those goals as well.

FAQ

How long will the process take from start to finish?

We don't believe that grant applications should be multi-month affairs. We want you to know whether you've got the funds to do your project as soon as possible. That's why we aim to get through every application within one month from first contact to offer. Please keep in mind that the Foundation team consists of two people, so during busier periods this may take the full month.

What sort of projects have you funded in the past?

In the past we have funded a robotics tournament in Melbourne, a festival for young people and aspiring changemakers in Wellington, and an impact-led jobs website in Australia.

Do you provide untied funding?

Unfortunately given the size of our fund, we cannot yet provide multi-year untied funding for projects or organisations. It's something we want to explore in the future though!

What are the reporting requirements?

We believe in trust-based philanthropy and we want you and your team to be able to focus on making a positive impact – not on creating complicated reports that will only be skimmed over once. Instead, we ask that after your project is complete, you touch base with us so we can organise a call and chat about how your project went, any learnings or feedback, and explore ways we can continue working together in future.

Do you fund projects outside of AU/NZ?

At this stage we only invest in AU/NZ projects working to unleash creativity in young people at scale.

Can I apply for a Protostar grant and project funding?

Yes you can. As long as you are eligible for Protostars, and your project meets the requirements for project funding, you can apply for both.
